My campus interview experience ( Part 2/3 )

well, its almost a week since i posted the Part 1.... n this time its more interesting..... so lets start in straight away...

FOREWORD: The weekend after the results of CTS went distressed..... i went home after college and i was so unhappy wid the way the CTS selected students... i explained the whole story to my family n they jus cheered me which was what they cud do at that point of time.. n so i went back to my room the very nex day in chennai and started preparin for Wipro... but i worked more only on technical and hr since i was so confident wid the aptitude test... had some practices wid how to respond for troublesome questions which i experienced in CTS... k now... time to get started wid the actual post...

June 25, 2007

It was Monday and i was ready to take on Wipro;) ma confidence level was higher this time.. so it started wid usual Pre-placement talk by 8:30 in the usual 'so called auditorium'... i have to mention it here that the Wipro guys started so soon without makin us to wait for the PPT whereas the CTS............. damn.... they came too late... k k... where am i?? ya.... the PPT... it was typical... nothin different or nothin amazed me there.... i think it took an hour to draw to its close.... then we were sent to the same block where v had the CTS aptitude.... it was said that the aptitude has also got technical questions... and so this time v planned to sit in groups.. like... a group havin a good techni and a good math..... n i was put in a group as a good techni..... yes.... people did trust me as m good in programmin as i said earlier... but...... unfortunately the question paper came with two different patterns... they were given alternatively to the students... so it was like the same question paper only for the students sittin next to each other vertically..... there was nothin to do with guys to your left or right.... so things got tougher for some students.... still v had some fun in the hall besides there were some tight tests wid aptitude n tech..... i helped some n even got some quick clues :p from ma frenz around me.... so it ended up gladly..... then v were set free.... we went to auditorium and chilled out there...... no class rooms were given for the students to rest themselves this time.... but v dint stop enjoyin... did al freakin things inside auditorium itself.... hehe... later v rushed inside the mess hall n had lunch as soon as the mess gates opened.... n again.... the same like in CTS.... results were announced around 2:30 in the auditorium... n with no surprise i got through with many of ma frenz.... this time it was like the technical and hr interviews to be conducted seperately the next day..... so again.... back to room...... dint prepare anythin hard.... was so cool.... relaxin :D

June 26, 2007

well groomed.... took some snaps in the room before leavin to college... n here'z one of them....

smart right??? ya i know... looks so professional fa me.... great.... its k now... back to the topic...

v were assembled in front of the block where the interviews were held.... 1st floor-technical ... 2nd-HR..... whew...... the block we were waitin is our own dept block.... it was like a huge crowd gathered there..... v had no idea when the interview actually started since it was said that the interview for CSE wil b after lunch..... felt satisfyin..... but v were still hangin around there to get feedbacks from the rejected students.... yes... it was like the spot result for the technical... the selected will get a form for the hr round and the rejected, where else, back to home.... was so pleasing to hear(sarcastic)..... so it was a noisy ambience there near the steps... there were some attenders who stood near the steps lettin the students upstairs batch-wise..... oh ya i forgot somethin.... v were given some unique numbers (kinda token)... so that they can classify us for batch-wise interviews, panels, timings, etc etc., which were their problems.... but i was confirmed that mine will be after lunch and so i left to have the lunch.... and also there was no such confusion with the same-name as i got in CTS... the other one was not there for techni... well, it was a hot summer and very sunny weather.... came back after lunch to the same spot n waitin for some of ma frenz who went to attend their technicals..... some came back and ma other room mate was selected to attend to hr..... one of ma close frenz, Raja, came back after techni and said he got kicked out.... when v asked wat they askd, the replies were scary..... thought even i l b like him tellin the same after my interview..... they asked him some of the toughest questions.... they sounded even tough fa me n m afraid not, sounded tough fa many of us..... but there were talks like they are not askin much for the non-IT depts..... but still i dint loose hope.... wid full enthu i went up when ma batch was called..... it was a big AC hall and i could c more than 10 panels... i was directed to a panel by the attender who let me inside the hall... so thats it.... my interview started..... the interviewer dint c any of ma marks or cerificates but straight away started shootin the questions..... N IT WAS SO GOD-DAMN EASY FOR ME as i answered for everythin he asked, drew everythin he wanted me to draw, wrote the codes for every prog he asked me to write..... it was so much like my-kind of interview.... this is the interview i was dreamin abt.... i felt like this is my day after i saw many of my friends kicked out already.... i successfully completed my technical interview and i was handed over with the HR form.. i walked out the hall with a pride and the HR form in my hand... i had to directly go to the next floor where the HR interview was taking place.... there i found some of ma frenz who already got through the techni n waitin for hr in the corridor... before i found ma room mate fren, vicrum, i was asked to fill the form inside an another hall next to the hall where the interview was takin place.... so i went there, done with the fillin and handed over to the person who collected it from us... he gives all the filled forms to the panels, in groups... so that it cud b easy for them to take on the students batch-wise.... i was waitin outside the interview hall wid vicrum and v were so happy that v got thru the techni and discussin wat hapnd in there... suddenly, i was called inside n directed to a panel where a fat guy wid a terror look was sittin wid ma form... but i was so cool n there was a little smile still stickin in ma face... it started wid a typical HR question, "Tell me about yourself"... n it went on with some pretty easy questions.... but......... some unexpected as well though i knew the answers for them like "Abstract of my mini-project", "What is Data-mining?", "Data-warehousing".... those r completely technicals... but i still answered them correctly with some stammers..... so it got over and i went outside the hall after a satisfyin performance.. i was waitin for vicrum and even he came out after a couple of mins... we planned to leave as it was announced that the results wil b declared the next day... so v jus left after few mins and we were on the way to room which was like around 5 kms from the college... we were still discussin wat hapnd in techni n HR... on the way, we went to a juice shop near to our room and while having the juice v happned to see the wipro buses taking their employees back home from office.... i started dreamin that after a year or two, even i get to travel in dat..... wat a moment that i felt that way... n after havin the juice v returned to the room which was like half a kilometre down a street from the juice shop.. v had so much fun in front of the other one who already got thru in CTS n we were threatenin him like "2 wipro and 1 cts in a same room is hard to survive for the cts"... but it was al jus fa fun.... not a real threat.......... so the day jus ended in a usual pattern where vicrum started with his flirtin business over phone, deep david(the CTS guy), doin al the crazy things he used to do(like listenin or watchin some stupid songs in his laptop wid maximum volume and pretends like he is good in hacking by reading al those hackers books n stuffs) n me with ma lappy as well, internet, surfing, music......

June 27, 2007

started exactly like the same in CTS till the result announcement...... but this time the scene was little different.... al set to announce the results.... and the campus interview in-charge was ready with the list... before he started readin out the names he pointed that 14 students were selected from my dept... now with the list...... he asked the students to stand up after their names are read.... after 5 or 6 names, there was a call, "RAHUL"..... i almost stood straight before i heard the second part of the name "RAMACHANDRAN", who is an another guy with the same name as mine but with different last name..... damn it was an another big blow and i sat down feeling really embarrased...... i was even waitin til they read the last name of our dept... but again............. i almost felt like crying out loud but controlled maself this time..... even vicrum, who stood next to me, got selected and i was the only one still without placed from my room... it sounded too bad for myself and i was so much unhappy that day... again, as usual, sent a negative sms to ma dad askin him not to call me that night.... i felt too bad for the whole day..... when i saw the same wipro buses that evenin i picked up stones to throw on it.... m not jokin, i seriously did that.... then vicrum stopped me and said "its all for good.. dont worry you will get in HCL which is also a very good company.. consider that three of us getting into different companies"... that gave me some spark to work harder for HCL which was scheduled the very next day.... also it was the first time they conducted online test for aptitude and technical... so i prepared with my maximum involvement that evening with the sample and previous year question papers..... i dint even go for dinner but i asked vicrum to buy a dosa for me:D i really worked out too hard that night... my parents still called me and wished for the interview..... i jus took all the pasts as a lesson and started to improvise myself more on technical and HR... also, its the first time for me with online tests... so practised lots with C and C++ in my lappy ..... i found many things which i dint know in C.... i felt that all that happened so far are for my good...

well, this Part ends here and i will post the Part 3 soon... i guess this is little bit more lengthy than the prev... m jus filling with watever i can remember sequencially....... so... sorry if it is borin or if u dont like the way it is written.... but i cant change myself writing this way since i felt i can express everythin happened around my interview scene by scene which sounds interestin and a good recall for myself....
k then, i l catchya with the next part soon.... do check my blog regularly.....

My Campus Interview Experience (Part 1/3)

wellllll, here are some of the happenenings around the days of my campus interviews that i remember.........
where to start with???? ya............ let me start from the beginning of my 7th semester - june,2007(i dont remember the exact date when the college re-opened)... but it was announced earlier in the prev semester that the campus interview starts by 20 june,2007....... i was so much excited since i got too much of confidence on myself and my programming skills..... i knew that i would get into some good company....... the classes were started and the lecturers are on their jobs.... but all the students were anxious to prepare the aptitude and technicals for the campus interviews..... and the lecturers were also not bad... gave some good time to prepare except one or two who were so rude with the students:-/ i had no idea on how tough it would be in the aptitude round and i was like sitting very cool as though i was ready to face the interviews even the very next day.... naaa.... even on the same day....... besides.... i was so strong in programming...... but i still used to sit with 'Programming in C' complete reference all freaking day long cos i like to program in C than in any other platform.....
so, the days were getting closer.............
finally.....

june 20,2007...

i had to face 'CTS', one of the leading IT companies in India(or even globally--- i dont have any idea on how big it is... hehe)... it was around 9am.... they called us to the pre-placement talk which held in our college's 'so called auditorium'... it was quite ok with their talks but i was not very much listening to them..... then they directed us to the class-rooms for attending the aptitude exam which is the first round of the interview....... v had good fun there cos the guy who came for the super-vision is working under the same firm where one of my class-mates was working (actually we all went with him to find the hall where this guy handled... hehe.... sshhhh) ... it was not like a campus interview.. rather... it was like a class-test..... or..... mid-term.... or watever u name it..... soon, the aptitude got over...... it was said that results will be announced by 3pm and we were given some of the empty class rooms for rest.... v had a good lunch in the mess hall and it was as usual with the menu..... and after lunch we went to those rooms and waited till they called us back to the 'so called auditorium'...... but this sounded something stupid.... they gathered every one of us who attended the interview(there were about 4-5 colleges along with us who attended the interview in our college) and announced the results in the mic....... there were around 1000 (or even more) under the single big roof and they started announcing the names of the short-listed.... Fortunately, my name was also read........ but we were very much shocked that one of our class' toppers dint make it through........ and also a girl who sat next to me in aptitude(hehe).... i was like almost started dreaming......(( "hmmmm ...this could be my company......... ")) after the results, we were told that the technical and hr rounds will be held on the next day together and sent home.....

june 21, 2007...

there was a list on the bulletin-board holding all the short-listed names and a hall number next to each name as where they will have their resp tech+hr(final) interview.... but........ there came a problem.... actually, there was an another guy with the same name as mine and also with same initial 'S'.... in fact, it had been too hard for me in all those college days with him as he does all the mischief's and my friends comes to me and asks why you doing all those...... then i had to explain everyone what it actually was..... great.... i fought my full college life hard with this little same-name thingy...... damn.... and here... in the short-listed names.. he was also there..... both had different timings of the interview and so the hall numbers..... then i rushed to the campus interview in-charge and asked what to do with this problem..... i was askd to clarify from the attender(who helps the interviewers) of my panel and it was confirmed later that i had to attend the first and he had to go to the other.... whew...... i was waiting for my name to be called inside and it was like 5 or 6 guys before me..... they all were preparing each and every second.. but i was so cool after being in high tension with the same-name confusion.... waited waited waited....... and finally..... 'RAHUL'..... there came the call...... i stepped inside the hall and i was directed to my panel.... it was a mam and she was looking pretty old..... i was so proffesional and pretty decent with my outfits and body language..... she started with a common question 'about my family????' and it goes on........ i was so strong with the technical questions and little ups n downs with hr questions like "y low marks in board exams and y low percent in university exams?????" i think i stammered a bit but overall i was quite satisfied with my own replies..... i came out and went to meet my friends attending their interviews in some other halls.... after our interviews got over v had lunch and asked to be rested at the auditorium.... v had some good fun there hoping that the results would be announced on the same day.... but later after few hours of waiting it was declared in the mic that the results are likely to b announced on the next day in their respective class-rooms........... so we were again sent home before it got late.......

june 22, 2007...

it was like the regular college day... getting up late, rushing up to get the bus in time, standing on the foot-board in the bus, having break-fast in the college mess hall, going to classroom late, lectures, green boards..... awaiting the result every minute...... n finally...... it came.... the campus interview in-charge, Head of the Department, and the other section students of the same dept gathered in my class-room and it was al set to announce the result....... it was 20 students who got placed and i was hoping that i would be one of them..... they started in alphabetical order.... i noticed that it was like most of the top scorers got placed... n i was stil hoping my name would be there..... names startin with 'm' got over... 'n', o,p and it started wid 'r'.... i kept ma fingers crossed.... there were one or two names n THAT'S IT....... they moved to 's'..... doummmmmmmbb............
i felt that i lost a huge opportunity..... i just wished al of them who got through and sms'ed my dad that i dint...... but for a good reason i was quite a bit happy that none of my friends got placed except one of my room mates(we were 3 at that time)..... so there ended the chapter of 'CTS' on my life...... but at the other end there were gossips like "the CTS took away with most of the toppers and they least bothered to prefer technically skilled ones.... " so this convinced me a bit and also i started working on for the next interview where 'WIPRO' was scheduled to start by june 25....

it was an another exciting episode n wil be posted soon......

Last week I was driving to the post office to ship some customer
orders. I noticed a foul odor blowing out of my car's air vents
and I looked up at the car 5 car-lengths in front of me. Sure
enough, I saw a hand reaching out through the driver's window
flicking the ashes from a cigarette. That was followed by a
plume of smoke, headed straight for my car. I quickly reached
down and closed the outside air vent.
Perhaps you believe that your smoking habit is just YOUR
problem. Did you ever stop to analyze why non-smokers are so
outspoken about smoking in public? The secondhand smoke issue is
highly charged and still debated. But there's more to the issue
of how your smoking affects other people. This article is an
honest look--a chance for you to evaluate the impact your
smoking has on everyone around you. I encourage you to read the
articles referenced in the endnotes for additional details.

SMOKING AND THE UNBORN CHILD

The evidence continues to mount. Smoking during pregnancy does
affect your unborn child. Developmental growth and birth weight
in babies of smoking mothers is lower than babies of non-smoking
mothers. These same "smoking" babies are more likely to be
shorter in height, slower at reading and lower in "social
adjustment" than children of nonsmoking mothers.

Statistics show that infant mortality--the death of the baby
either at birth or through a miscarriage--is 50 percent higher
when the mother smokes. That means nonsmoking parents experience
half as many infant mortalities. The good news is that if you
stop smoking by the fourth month of pregnancy, you can
significantly reduce these dangers. (1)

"Women who smoke while pregnant pass NNK, a very potent
carcinogen, to their babies still developing in the womb.
Earlier research showed that offspring of animals treated with
NNK developed tumors of the lung, trachea, liver, and other
organs." (2)

A recent study even suggests that individuals, whose mothers
smoked during pregnancy, were predisposed to take up smoking
themselves. If you smoke while pregnant, you may be encouraging
your child to smoke, years from now! (3)

SMOKING AND CHILDREN

Newborn babies exposed to their mother's smoking through breast
feeding and environmental tobacco smoke show significantly
higher levels of urinary cotinine. Cotinine is a major
metabolite of nicotine, and is used as a marker for recent
cigarette smoke exposure.

A study examined 507 infants, finding urinary cotinine levels
during the first 2 weeks of life were significantly increased in
infants whose mothers smoked. Breast-fed infants had higher
cotinine levels than non-breast-fed infants, but this was
statistically significant only if mothers smoked. Urinary
cotinine levels were 5 times higher in breast-fed infants whose
mothers smoked than in those whose mothers smoked but did not
breast-feed. Babies definitely receive the harmful chemicals
found in cigarettes through both breast feeding and
environmental exposure. (4)

Children of smokers are also 2 1/2 times more likely to die of
sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), or crib death. One study
found that nearly 60 percent of all SIDS cases could be
prevented if smokers stopped smoking around babies and pregnant
women. (5)

A meta-analysis of studies conducted after 1965 showed
significant risk to children exposed to secondhand smoke of
numerous ailments including asthma, tonsillectomy, lower
respiratory tract infections, plus many others. Children were
also at risk of death due to fires caused by cigarettes. (6)

One study reveals an incredible statistic: Children of smokers
are nearly three times as likely to smoke as children of non-
smokers. Parents, have you ever thought of yourself as a drug
pusher? (7)

SECONDHAND SMOKE

Does secondhand smoke cause cancer or other illness? Do we have
to ask? This issue has divided the pro- and anti-smoking lobbies
for many years. However, a study by the National Cancer
Institute(NCI) released in November 1999, presents conclusive
evidence, including 18 epidemiological studies linking
secondhand smoke to coronary heart disease.

Donald Shopland, coordinator of NCI's Smoking and Tobacco
Control Program, notes that the report estimates that each year
in the United States between 35,000 and 62,000 coronary heart
disease deaths occur due to secondhand smoke exposure, also
known as environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). "ETS exposures are
related to much more than heart disease. When the thousands of
ETS-related lung cancers and other diseases are considered, ETS
clearly is a major cause of death in the United States," said
Shopland. (8)

OTHER EFFECTS OF SMOKING

Besides the obvious effects of smoking presented above, there
are many other effects that you probably never considered.

First, smoking stinks. Never mind the health risks. The
offensive odor intrudes on the noses of people all around you,
from your family and co-workers, to patrons at public places
such as restaurants and sporting events. While you may feel it
is your right to smoke in public places, consider how you would
feel if your next door neighbor suddenly opened a chicken farm
in his back yard. The stench can be sickening. The issue is not
so much a rights issues as much as it is a consideration issue.
Treat the people around you with respect, the way that you'd
expect them to treat you.

Aside from the smell of smoke, there's also the issue of
cigarette butts carelessly discarded along roadways and other
public places. While most smokers would probably never consider
tossing a used cup or hamburger wrapper out their car window,
many don't give a second thought to flicking one cigarette butt
after another out the window. Don't think one little butt
matters? Consider that it takes one to five years for a
cigarette butt to disintegrate, or biodegrade. (9)

What's that? You only throw out perhaps one cigarette butt per
pack. Ok, let's examine that. You litter one butt for every 20
you smoke. That's 5% of your cigarettes. Not much, right?
Consider that the worldwide consumption of cigarettes is
somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,050,000,000,000 per year. If
"only" 5% of cigarette butts were discarded improperly, that
means 302,500,000,000 butts are littering every street corner,
parking lot, public park, and beach in the world. The next time
you stop in your car at a stop light, look down next to your
car. You'll probably see dozens, if not hundreds of butts.

What do improperly discarded butts lead to, among other things?
Yes, fires! Thousands of fires are started each year by
carelessly discarded cigarette butts. Thousands of innocent
victims are killed each year as a result of these fires. These
fires and deaths are easily prevented if only you would take a
moment to properly discard your butts.

How else does your smoking affect other people? Consider that
your smoking habit costs hundreds or thousands of dollars per
year. Add this amount up over 20 or 30 years, plus tack on the
interest that money could have earned and you have wasted
perhaps $100,000 or more! Just think what that money could have
done for you and your family. One cigarette at a time, and no
one notices. But if you pulled $100,000 out of your bank
account, you'd be called a thief!

The financial costs don't stop at the cigarettes alone. You're
also probably paying double or more for your health insurance.
You're also much more likely to incur doctor visits and medical
expenses than are non-smokers. This costs you both for the
treatment as well as the lost wages from your time off from
work. The value of your car and home may also be reduced, due to
the odor and filth of cigarettes.

Have your personal relationships been affected? Smoking can be
very offensive to non-smokers. Many non-smokers won't consider a
smoker as a possible spouse. If you're in sales, smoking may be
killing deals because you smell bad, or have offensive breath.
People buy *you*, not just your product!. Your career may even
be stunted due to excessive smoke breaks. Smokers waste many
hours each week taking breaks to satisfy their habit. Don't
think that your regular absences go unnoticed by your colleagues
and your boss. While you're outside relaxing, your co-workers
are inside working. If you were the boss, to whom would you give
a raise or promotion?

Your smoking also cheats your family and friends. When you die
early (the average smoker will die eight years earlier than a
non-smoker), you rob your family and friends of--you! If you are
unfortunate enough to get sick at a very early age, you also
threaten your children's normal childhood, and seriously impact
your spouse's life. Consider your children, spouse, family and
friends when you smoke next.

Finally, don't forget that smoking cheats YOU! All of the
foregoing information affects you. When you smoke, you are
slowly robbing yourself.

The point of all this? Your smoking habit has far reaching
consequences. Quitting smoking can erase these negative
consequences and improve your life and the lives of so many
other people around you. Start making plans today to quit
smoking.

Randy Pausch reprising his "Last Lecture"

guys,, u have to check this lecture.... m sure that u gona learn somethin outa this n understand wat's life.

On September 18, 2007, computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver a last lecture called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” With slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that is devouring his pancreas and that will claim his life in a matter of months. On the stage that day, Randy was youthful, energetic, handsome, often cheerfully, darkly funny. He seemed invincible. But this was a brief moment, as he himself acknowledged.
Randy’s lecture has become a phenomenon, celebrating the dreams we all strive to make realities. And now, in his book based on the now-famous lecture, Randy goes even deeper to inspire us all.
